Today in Greece, we celebrate Epiphany —
the day light reveals itself.
It marks the blessing of the waters,
commemorating the baptism of Christ, when land, sea, and sky become one ceremony.
A cross is cast into the water,
and swimmers dive after it —
not for glory,
but for the honor of being first
to touch the blessing
and carry it back to shore.
Water is the protagonist today.
It cleanses, connects, remembers.
This is why I keep returning to it with my camera. Water never poses.
It reflects, moves, accepts light
and changes character every second;
just like life.
—
Photography, at its core,
is learning when not to interfere.
To wait. To trust the moment.
To let meaning surface on its own.
On Epiphany, the water is blessed.
The light is honest.
And my job is simple:
to be there,
and see clearly.

Episode 8: “Life Through the Viewfinder (and a Scratched Lens)”
They say photographers see the world differently — and maybe they’re right. But often, we see it through something else: a tiny rectangle, pressed to our eye, framed by a viewfinder.
With my right eye glued to the camera, the world sharpens and softens all at once. Light bends, shadows dance, and suddenly, nothing else exists — just the frame I’ve carved out of chaos.
Of course, after 30+ years, there’s one unavoidable casualty: my glasses. That right lens bears the battle scars — rubbed, scratched, and polished by the rubber eyecup of my viewfinder. A tiny reminder that every image comes with its price.
Photography is part meditation, part obsession, and part gentle warfare with your own optics. Each glance is a conversation: with the world, with light, with your instincts — and sometimes with the tiny voice that mutters, “Not again… my glasses!”
And yet, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every frame, every heartbeat, every fleeting instant is worth a few scratches. Because life through the viewfinder is more alive, more intimate, more vivid than life anywhere else.
So yes — keep your eye there. Not out of stubbornness, but out of love. And maybe, once in a while, remember to clean the lens.
🎬
More stories from behind the lens every Sunday — because after 30+ years, I’m still seeing the world this way.
