Swimming banned on dozens of Volos beaches due to health concerns
The Central Port Authority of Volos has imposed a ban on swimming along a significant stretch of coastline in the Volos area, citing public health concerns. The ban, which affects beaches from Agria in the east to Agios Georgios Kynigas in the west, was prompted by the recent appearance of large quantities of dead fish washing up from Lake Karla into the waters of Pagasitikos Gulf.

Halkidiki at risk: the environmental and socio-economic impacts of Eldorado Gold’s investment plan
In April 2023, Greece's Ministry of Environment issued a new environmental permit for Eldorado Gold's investment plan in Halkidiki, replacing the previous conditions set in 2011—conditions that had been repeatedly violated. This decision came just months before the company resumed construction on the Skouries copper-gold mine, a project that had been on hold since 2017. The revised permit, based on a 2021 Investment Agreement, is seen by many as an accommodation of the company’s demands, allowing for more intensive exploitation of the region’s resources.

Mitsotakis dismisses low wages in Greece as a myth, claims measures to combat inflation are effective
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has downplayed concerns about low wages in Greece, calling them a "myth" during a ministerial council meeting. He defended his government's efforts to tackle inflation, asserting that the measures taken to curb price increases have been effective. "Inflation is declining, and for the second month in a row, food price increases in our country have fallen below the European average," Mitsotakis claimed. He emphasised that a detailed comparison of product prices from last year to this year would demonstrate the effectiveness of the government’s efforts.
