[en] World Bee Day : WHY IS WORLD BEE DAY CELEBRATED?
Bees and other pollinators are vital for ecosystems and food production, supporting biodiversity and nutrition. However, they face threats from intensive farming and pesticide misuse.
It is estimated that without bees, the global food ecosystem could survive for up to five years.
World Bee Day, celebrated every year on May 20 since 2018, raises awareness of their importance and the dangers they face. It was established through the efforts of Slovenia and Apimondia, in honor of Anton Janša, a pioneer of modern beekeeping.
The day encourages global action to protect pollinators, their habitats, and promote sustainable beekeeping.

Οι μέλισσες και οι άλλοι επικονιαστές είναι ζωτικής σημασίας για τα οικοσυστήματα και την παραγωγή τροφίμων, καθώς στηρίζουν τη βιοποικιλότητα και τη διατροφή. Ωστόσο, απειλούνται από τη μονοκαλλιέργεια και την κακή χρήση φυτοφαρμάκων. Υπολογίζεται ότι χωρίς τις μέλισσας, το παγκόσμιο διατροφικό οικοσύστημα θα άντεχε έως 5 έτη
Η Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Μέλισσας γιορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο στις 20 Μαΐου από το 2018, για να ευαισθητοποιήσει σχετικά με τη σημασία των επικονιαστών και τους κινδύνους που αντιμετωπίζουν. Καθιερώθηκε με πρωτοβουλία της Σλοβενίας και της Apimondia, προς τιμήν του Αντόν Γιάνσα, πρωτοπόρου της σύγχρονης μελισσοκομίας. Η ημέρα αυτή καλεί σε δράση για την προστασία των επικονιαστών, των οικοτόπων τους και τη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη της μελισσοκομίας.
