✨ SUB ROSA PLANS YOUR WEEKEND ✨
So much to do these next days it's hard to keep up. Let us remove the stress of choosing.
SATURDAY 11 SEPTEMBER ! Midday/afternoon, head over to Kypseli and peruse the Athens Art Book Fair 2021: The Local Edition. Support local artists, expand your god damn mind. At 19:00 join the Athens Pride 2021 March | Πορεία Υπερηφάνειας and display what the hell you're proud of. F**k the Google contingent, march with/show your love to the smaller contingents that are on the ground doing real work for qu**rs, refugees, and the otherwise vulnerable. AND THEN, literally/figuratively roll down the road and join us at Sub Rosa Space for Local Culture: Bury Me at the Mall ! (Seriously it's an absurdly short downhill walk from Syntagma Square, the parade's culminating point.) Saturday night's performance offers much for such a symbolically overloaded day: a meditation on commemoration and what pernicious projects it may bear, the voice of the outraged and overlooked cutting through the nonsense.
THEEEEEN on SUNDAY 12 SEPTEMBER go back to Kypseli for ΑΝΑΓΝΩΣΗ ΠΟΙΗΣΗΣ / POETRY READING - ΕΛ/ENG at O Meteoritis. Original works by Odysseas Simos from his 2020 edition with Cha Ni (Charlotte Nieuwenhuys), read by some of Athens's s*xiest independent art hustlers (you may even get to see someone from the Sub Rosa team reading a poem...) THEN THEN, cross Patision and go to Sheger Restaurant for dinner. They are a delicious new Ethiopian restaurant in Plateia Amerikis, they make an amazing kitfo (Agathoupoleos 19) ✨✨✨

⚡️ATHENS CALLING ⚡️
Thank you Αθηνόραμα for featuring us in this week’s hottest of the hot.
“SUB ROSA SPACE RETURNS: The cultural space of Praxitelous 37 returns to its pre-COVID rhythms on 15/8 with a special performance by the artist collective Local Culture. In ‘Two Thousand Twenty One Years of Lockdown’ the Dormition of the Virgin meets the myth of the Sleeping Beauty, in a performance that raises questions of patriarchal power and its obsession with women’s virginity. The performance will begin at 9:30pm, doors open at 8:00pm. Free entrance.”
Note as well that use of masks is mandatory and there will be no late admittance (show up before 9:30) 😎
As ever, Athinorama, we love you! Thank you for spreading the word!

Sub Rosa Space condemns the forced closure of EMPROS Theatre Θεατρο Εμπρος by Greece's national police force.
EMPROS hosted hundreds of free cultural events by collective occupation of an unused, publicly owned building in central Athens. It will forever be a brilliant work of independent, lateral organising.
Covered by cement bricks, EMPROS is casualty to a violent politics of sealing off that is embodied in the current Minister of Culture's office. The Acropolis is another casualty. Covered in coarse synthetic binders, force makes new surfaces of them to permit flows of mass tourism, of easy consumption. The endemically, organically Athenian core is made to suffocate thereunder.
Shame to any government that would destroy cultural brilliance, ignorant of wealth it is too callous to appreciate.
Life everlasting, evermore to EMPROS.
