HM engineering is very proud to announce the start of operation of the Mwomboshi project in Zambia.

The project which was led by “Z&A CONSULTING ENGINEERS INTERNATIONAL LTD" is developed on both banks of the Mwomboshi River, in Chisamba District in Central Province to the east of the Great North (T2) Road, and covers a total area of around 5,150 ha gross. The Mwomboshi Dam and Irrigation Scheme was funded by the World Bank.

The main element is the Mwomboshi dam (23m High). The Dam will collect water from a 954 km2 hydrological basin, extending up to Mukamwanji Hills at the north, Lileta at the west and Namingele Hill at the south and is expected to irrigate an area of approximately 5,170 ha. The irrigation water is transferred with pipelines (ø315, 450, 500, 630) and pumping stations to the farms. Side works were the construction of roads to service the project.

“Z&A CONSULTING ENGINEERS INTERNATIONAL LTD" was the lead engineer responsible for the structural and civil design.

HM eng was a sub-consultant to the civil engineer for all MEP works including the design of:
• No.10 Pump stations (1,000-2,000 KVA each) for Irrigation
• More than 65 Pumps, up to 215kVA – 600 m3/h – 8.3 bar
• 10kV / 400V Transformers
• Back-up Generators
• 400V Electrical design
• Automation
• Pressure Vessels and top-up compressors
• Water-hummer arrestors

The project was constructed by “ANHUI FOREIGN ECONOMIC CONSTRUCTION GROUP) CORP” for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Zambia.
