The collaborative regeneration study (, , ) for the historic “El Paso” stadium reimagines it as an open civic ground for sport, culture and everyday life.

Rather than replacing the existing stadium, the proposal works through careful and targeted interventions that preserve its atmosphere and identity while opening it more generously to the city.

At the heart of the masterplan is the transformation of the currently fenced perimeter into a continuous public park, reconnecting the stadium with the everyday life of Kallithea and reinforcing its role as a rare green breathing space within the dense urban fabric of Athens.
 
On the eastern side, the existing concrete bleachers are consolidated into a continuous structure, while new passages and inhabited galleries create spaces for movement, social interaction and community use throughout the week. New canopy additions improve comfort and protection for spectators.

The western stand introduces upgraded viewing infrastructure and outdoor training areas, while preserving and enhancing the running track through shaded and sheltered zones for everyday athletic use.
The proposal ultimately acts as both preservation and reinvention, demonstrating how existing sports infrastructure can evolve into an open and inclusive civic landscape deeply rooted in its community.

Quiet reinvention has become part of the essence of , as the hotel evolves in modest gestures — extending itself layer by layer, season by season.

Delicately sprouting from its robust concrete base, a new chapter in accommodation unfolds with an immediate connection to the horizon. Eight new rooms are nestled within a lightweight canopy that hovers above the solid tanks, tracing the line of the building without overwhelming it. Slender components dematerialize the presence of the new level, honoring the original ethos while offering a fresh perspective — and a quiet sense of uplift.

Friday Matters is a forum that brings design conversations out of the studio and into a convivial, interactive setting — blending the rigor of a lecture, the intimacy of a gathering, and the energy of a Friday night out.

Last October, we invited guests to step into an interactive “cabinet of curiosities” featuring objects from celebrated creatives such as Faye Chatzi, Soutzoglou Carpets, Kimisoo, Chrysanthi Koumianaki, and Objects of Common Interest.

Everyone voted on where these objects might best “belong” in the world, turning the exhibition into a playful exploration of context, meaning, and imagination.

From woven baskets anchored in Mykonos to resin vases evoking Venice, the activation celebrated creativity while inviting participants to reflect on how objects -and ideas- connect to place and culture.

Our guest Piers Taylor walked us through the research exhibited in his latest book “Learning from the Local”, which focuses on context, locality, and the vernacular in architecture, examining how buildings can respond to their surroundings and local culture while remaining relevant in a globalized world.

By shifting the focus from finished projects to stories, processes, and collaboration, Friday Matters sparks dialogue, inspires curiosity, and celebrates the dynamism of the design community.
