ACTIVISTA HOLDS REGIONAL DIALOGUE ON YOUTH INCLUSION IN CIVIC SPACES IN URR
On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Activista The Gambia, in partnership with ActionAid International The Gambia and with support from the UN Peacebuilding Fund, convened an intergenerational dialogue on youth inclusion in civic spaces and local peacebuilding structures in the Upper River Region.
The gathering brought together a diverse cross-section of society, regional authorities, religious leaders, persons with disabilities, youth groups, women leaders, and community representatives under the resonant theme, “Unity in Peace, Strengthened in Dialogue.” It was a platform for reflection, honesty, and a shared commitment to shaping a more inclusive national landscape.
Delivering a firm and timely message, the Chairperson of the Basse Area Council, Honourable Mahamadou Ceesay, called on young people to step boldly into the country’s political space. He cautioned against the tendency for youth to be reduced to mere tools during election periods, urging them instead to engage meaningfully in political discourse and decision-making processes.
The Programme Officer of Activista Gambia, Cherno Gueye, underscored the significance of the dialogue, particularly as the nation edges closer to another electoral cycle. He emphasised that peaceful elections are not the responsibility of a few, but a collective duty that requires vigilance, unity, and a firm rejection of any form of electoral violence or division.
Throughout the session, participants spoke candidly, raising concerns and challenging the persistent underrepresentation of young people and women in active politics. Their voices echoed a common demand: a more inclusive system that not only acknowledges their presence but actively creates space for their participation and leadership.
During the dialogue, one message stood clear; peace, inclusion, and national progress are best achieved when every voice is heard, and every generation is given a seat at the table.

YOUNG BASSERIAN LAUNCHES MOBILE APP TO PROVIDE STUDY SOLUTION FOR EXAM-BOUND STUDENTS
Born in Basse Santa Su in The Gambia’s Upper River Region, a young dreamer dared to imagine a solution to a problem that has challenged thousands of students for years.
Mudasiru Jallow, a determined and visionary Computer Science graduate from SRM University in Andhra Pradesh, India, has turned that dream into reality with the launch of an innovative educational mobile application called WAEC Wizard.
Mudasiru’s journey began humbly at Koba K***a Lower Basic School, where his curiosity and discipline quickly set him apart. He continued his education in Nasir, excelling through middle and high school, and consistently earning the trust of his peers and teachers as head boy at every stage.
Leadership came naturally to him, but so did awareness, an awareness of the struggles students faced, especially in rural communities where access to quality learning materials is limited.
Driven by these experiences, Mudasiru carried a powerful idea with him when he traveled abroad to pursue his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. While studying in India, he remained deeply connected to home, constantly reflecting on how technology could bridge the educational gap he had witnessed growing up.
That vision gave birth to WAEC Wizard, an offline mobile application designed to help students effectively prepare for exams, particularly the West African Senior School Certificate Examination shortly called WASSCE Built with accessibility in mind, the app allows students to study anytime and anywhere, even without internet access — a game-changer for many.
“The journey was not easy,” Mudasiru shared. “The app faced multiple challenges, including several rejections by Google before it could be accepted on the Play Store.”
Where many would have given up, Mudasiru persisted. He refined, improved, and kept pushing forward. His resilience paid off when, in April 2026, WAEC Wizard was finally launched on the Google Play Store — a proud moment not just for him, but for The Gambia.
Today, the app offers students access to over 3,500 multiple-choice questions, more than 400 theory questions, and a scoring system, all available offline. With an approval of the Ministry of Basic Education, it is now more than an app, it is a tool of empowerment for students striving to succeed against the odds.
His dream stretches far beyond borders. He envisions WAEC Wizard evolving into a global learning platform, one that will continue to grow, improve, and reach students not only in The Gambia, but across Africa and the world..
