Eastern Regional House of Chiefs accompanied by Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey ,together with other government appointees from the region visited Jubilee House to meet President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday April 22,2026.
The 11 Paramount Chiefs at the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs present were;

President John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive and balanced national development following a high-level engagement with the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.
During a courtesy call led by Nene Sakite II, the President outlined steady economic progress, noting improved macroeconomic stability, declining inflation, a strengthening currency, and Ghana’s ability to meet its debt obligations while withstanding global shocks.
He further disclosed ongoing efforts to operationalize the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS) at Bunso, alongside strategic investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and local governance. The President highlighted the uncapping of the District Assembly Common Fund as a key policy enabling Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to retain 80% of their allocations to drive local development, including the rollout of 24-hour economy markets.
While acknowledging progress, President Mahama emphasized the urgent need to tackle youth unemployment through private sector growth, industrialization, and agricultural expansion.
He also assured the Chiefs of government’s commitment to completing the Eastern Regional Hospital project and announced plans to commence three new hospital projects to improve healthcare access nationwide.
The President reiterated that flagship interventions such as Free Primary Health Care, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares), and expanded health infrastructure remain central to improving the wellbeing of Ghanaians.
President Mahama expressed appreciation for the continued support of traditional authorities, noting that collaboration remains vital to achieving sustainable development.

The Ghana Police Service, under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has officially secured a restraining order against any individual or group purporting to organize or conduct the funeral of Nana Kofi Sono II and Obaahema Yadwo Kakala, the late Omanhene and Queen Mother of the Sampa Traditional Council.
This restraining order is legally binding on everyone and takes immediate effect. Any person who defies this directive will face the full consequences of the law.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has officially removed Nana Akyaa Panin, the Queen of Apatrapa, from her position, thereby ending her 24-year reign following the discovery that she lacks royal lineage, rendering her ineligible to occupy the stool.
