Almost a month ago, we held a workshop with the committees of the villages we selected for the 2026 construction projects.
The meeting was important for establishing rules and defining all the project modalities and timelines.
Shortly before Christmas, we began shipping the first batch of materials for the foundations.
This year, we will build three JHSs and two kindergartens in various villages across the Central and Western regions of Ghana.
Our construction projects are low‑budget and rely on the active participation of the selected communities in the building work.
Without their involvement, no project would be possible.

🌊🐢 Conservation in Action! 🐢🌊
Yesterday we set free 200 Olive Ridley hatchlings from nests 25, 26 & 28, and relocated 3 nests from two nearby villages. We’re deep into nesting season and this year we have already moved 50+ nests to safer spots.
For the past two weeks our volunteers have been visiting local schools, sharing the story and inspiring the next generation of ocean protectors. 🌱📚
🤝 Collaboration with communities and schools is key to keep these amazing sea turtles thriving for years to come.

Today, 93 baby turtles began their epic journey into the sea.
All of them came from Nest 17 (which contained 133 eggs) that we relocated in early July.
12 nests are still awaiting hatching.
The results are a bit encouraging, and this year alone we released nearly 900 baby sea turtles.
Because of human activity or interference, only a few of them will survive to adulthood.
This is why numerous conservation projects worldwide are dedicated to protecting these ancient travelers.

Un mese fa, in Accra, abbiamo partecipato al 43° symposium dell'International Sea Turtle Society (ISTS).
Un meeting internazionale dove biologi marini, istituzioni, ambientalisti e altre organizzazioni da tutto il mondo si sono riunite per capire le difficoltà e condividere esperienze sulla protezione delle tartarughe di mare.
Era la prima volta che un evento di tale portata (per la protezione delle tartarughe di mare) veniva organizzato in Africa.
Per noi di Okra Projects, è stata una grande occasione per imparare dalle ultime ricerche e conoscere meglio le soluzioni a problemi comuni affrontati in molte parti del mondo.
