PREAMBLE: RELATIONSHIP
Relationship basically means a connection, link or bond between two things. Taken from ideological perspective, there can be a relationship between a man and woman, import and export, export and gold etc. Studies on relationship basically looks at how one variable affects another variable.

This write-up is focusing on interpersonal relationship, a bond or connection which exists between people. There are four main types of relationships. These are: family, friends, casual and intimate relationships.

Relationship with a domestic group of people with some degree of kinship – whether through blood, marriage, or adoption is known as family. A friend is defined as a person you know well and regard with affection, trust, and respect. An intimate relationship is one in which involves physical and emotional intimacy. Casual relationships are formed with people you encounter every day in the cause of life.

All relationships are built on the virtues that a person develops in the family. When children are brought up to love themselves and the rest of the family, they are likely to love other people, appreciate their friends and colleagues as well as future intimate relationships. On the other hand, when people are brought up in an undisciplined manner, they are likely to disregard their own selves and treat with contempt the people they may have an encounter with outside the family.

Relationships of various forms is borne out of love, trust, honesty, respect and altruism. Since we cannot give what we don’t have, people who are not taught to develop these virtues find it difficult to form meaningful relationships with others.

Forming a relationship with a person comes with a lot of personal, emotional, time and financial sacrifices. For this reason, people directly or indirectly wish to see their psychological, emotional, as well as other general sacrifices to be reciprocated. Relationship comes at a prize, and it is a very necessary aspect of human life.
