Ubora Institute, in collaboration with the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) and with funding from Accelerator, Results for Development (R4D), successfully organized a 3-day training session from November 13–15, 2024, at the Ubora Conference Room, East Legon.

This impactful training equipped eight HeFRA staff, including regional IT personnel, with the skills to independently upload and manage health facility tools and standards on a digitized platform. This initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing sustainability and efficiency in HeFRA’s regulatory processes, improving oversight of health facilities across Ghana.

Designed to modernize health facility inspection processes, this innovative mobile and web-based platform offers:

Since its launch in 2023, the platform has streamlined HeFRA’s nationwide inspections, ensuring quality and compliance across over 40 harmonized tools and standards.

Ubora Institute and the Ghana Health Service conducted a successful one-day Evidence Translation Advisors (ETA) Training on October 24, 2024, at Ellking Hotel, Accra. This training, a key milestone in Ghana's Network of Practice (NoP) Implementation strategy, was designed to equip ETAs with essential skills to facilitate evidence translation in their respective regions, a critical move to Ghana’s NoP nationwide scale-up.

The Network of Practice is an initiative by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to improve health service delivery through the Primary Health Care (PHS) system, especially at the sub-district and community level. It is a key feature of Ghana’s UHC Roadmap, aimed at repositioning Primary Health Care as smart, inclusive care for all, regardless of socio-economic status. An Evidence Translation Advisor (ETA) is a Ghana Health Service officer designated to lead the NoP Evidence Translation process within a region. Technical support for this role is provided by Ubora Institute.

The ETA training convened GHS Regional Directors, Deputy Directors for Clinical Care (DDCCs) and Public Health (DDPHs) from the Bono, Volta, and Northern regions. Also, in attendance from GHS National was Dr. Andrews Ayim, Director of Policy, who led representatives from the Policy, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation directorate (PPMED). Dr. John Williams, the Principal Investigator for the NoP Implementation Research Group at Dodowa Health Research Centre, Dr. John Williams was also present.

Ubora Institute’s Senior Advisors – Dr. Nicholas Tweneboa and Mr. Jonas Akpakli, Ireneous Dasoberi (Technical Advisor), Musah Ali (Programme coordinator), and Bright Gemegah (Project Analyst) facilitated sessions on the evidence translation process, equipping participants with the technical knowledge and skills needed to become effective ETAs. Dr. Ayim highlighted the importance of evidence translation in strengthening the NoP model, a key element in Ghana’s progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Throughout the session, participants actively engaged in discussions on curating evidence, prioritizing healthcare challenges, and applying analytical tools for root cause analysis. Additionally, the ETAs collectively emphasized the value of a participatory approach to support continuous improvement in healthcare delivery and policy adaptation within their regions.

This training marks a critical step toward enhancing the NoP model as Ghana strives to improve healthcare access, efficiency, and outcomes.
