Edem Agbana did a great job yesterday. It showed he was focused on the PAC’s core job scrutinising public funds, audit irregularities (including a related GH¢50 million+ rice/grain contract where payment was made but supply wasn’t fully delivered), and ensuring vague statements don’t become misleading public records. He wasn’t grandstanding; he was calmly demanding the kind of follow-up that protects taxpayers and keeps the committee credible. Many Ghanaians watching (and later on social media) praised him for exactly this: representing the public interest by refusing to let a potentially damaging claim slide without proof. In a session that got heated, Agbana came across as the MP who was actually trying to do the oversight work properly. That commitment to asking the “right questions” (as he later put it on Metro TV) was one of the clearest bright spots of the meeting. Well done, Hon. Agbana, that’s the kind of energy Ghana’s public accounts need more of.

Mr. President, while your economic stewardship is commendable, a growing discontent simmers among grassroots supporters. The disconnect between campaign promises and tangible benefits has left many feeling disenfranchised and fodder for opposition ridicule. As they struggle with unemployment, their grievances are met with assurances of pending clearance, exacerbating the perception of indifference.

This sentiment, if unaddressed, risks eroding the party's grassroots foundation. The narrative of unmet promises and perceived dismissiveness could undermine support, emboldening opponents and altering the political landscape. It's imperative to bridge this gap, ensuring policies translate into tangible benefits for those who bear the brunt of economic challenges.

Addressing grassroots concerns isn't just a moral imperative but a strategic necessity. Realigning expectations, accelerating job creation, and transparent communication can revitalize trust and reaffirm the party's commitment to its core constituency. The current trajectory, if unchecked, threatens to alienate the very base that sustains the party.

The time for recalibration is now. By prioritizing grassroots concerns and delivering on promises, the party can reignite its connection with supporters, fortify its foundation, and chart a course that balances vision with tangible, inclusive progress.
