IITA BBEST Project in Niger welcomed the Red Cross Executive Secretary in Niger, his team, and students from the agricultural College in Niamey to is the vegetable demonstration plots established in Niger.

During the visit, the team educated the visitors on the Novel BSF technology and asserted its potential to transform agriculture in the country.

The BSF frass is used to grow vegetables while the larvae are used to formulate feed for livestock, fish and pigs.

Few weeks earlier the IITA BBEST Project, BNARI-GAEC and WorldVeg - WCA engaged farmers in a field demonstration activity to showcase the potential of the use of the BSF frass in crops and 🥕 🍅 vegetables production.

Another field demonstration brought together farmers, key stakeholders, input dealers, a crop protectionist representative from agricultural NGOs and farmer-based organizations.

Participants engaged in the following activities:
✨ observed and assessed the performance of the different fertilizers on tomatoes, and cucumber.
✨ tracked the development of the crops in vegetative stage following the fertilizer application.
✨ staking of tomato plant to protect the fruits.
✨ They also prepared the nursery bed for the transplanting lettuce in the coming weeks.

Dr Mawufe Agbodzavu and Dr May-Guri Saethre, leads of IITA BBEST Project engaged farmers and expressed the project commitment to supporting them with agricultural innovations.
