Go Guetters WI
Sneak peak into Seaweed Foraging with GGWI and Guernsey Seaweed
21/06/2026
Go on, guet your rocks off! 🤣 GGWI members went out to Port Soif on two Seaweed Foraging Tours, carefully harvesting vraic straight off the rocks and shore line. Led by expert guides from Guernsey Seaweed, our members enjoyed an informative and adventurous local seaweed experience and a lucky starfish spotting! Here are some highlights from Thursday 18th at 15h30 and Saturday 20th at 17h30. Highly recommended! NB: walking canes and anti-slip footwear can be helpful to navigate the slippery rocks.

On Saturday 20th June, the Go Guetters WI were busy guetting everything ready as we proudly hosted a Crafting in the Community jewellery-making event for WI members from across the island. 💎✨
Led by the talented Athene Sholl, attendees created a beautiful piece for themselves and another to be donated to Les Bourgs Hospice to sell and help raise funds for this wonderful local charity.
It was all hands on deck for our members, from setting up and serving lunch to clearing away afterwards. It was a brilliant team effort all round.
Lunch was a feast of jacket potatoes with a variety of fillings, followed by two delicious cakes kindly made by our members Rachel and Mandy. 🍰
A huge thank you to Athene, everyone who attended, and all our helpers for making the day such a success. Another fabulous example of the Go Guetters guetting behind a great cause! 💜

What the Vraic, it's not a plant? For our June meeting, Ben and Naomi of Guernsey Seaweed chatted to us about all things seaweed! Did you know that there are over 750 species of seaweed that grow in Guernsey waters? There are no known allergies to seaweed. The first ever Seaweed based hand sanitiser was made in Guernsey during the Covid19 epidemic and launched the business from fertilizer manufacturer to seaweed-based skin care and culinary seasonings experts. More exciting things to come such as seaweed plastic and hopefully an oyster shell exfoliant! After a light hearted talk, lots of sampling and testing we were truly inspired. Later this week our members are embarking on two Seaweed Foraging Tours at Port Soif. Go on, guet Vraic-ing.

Go on, Guet competitive! If you've never played Beetle Drive before, you don't know what you're missing out on. Gill Weeks hosted a fantastic vintage game night of Beetle Drive for our GoGuetters WI May meeting. It was a fun way to guet connected, guet laughing and guet moving around the room. Well done to Susan, Julie and Catherine who won the top scores and Val who graciously accepted the b***y prize 👏😀.
