Well, hello there!
Recently I have been asked: “What is so special about teaching ESL for IT? How is it different from a standard English class?” as peculiar as this question may be, but that’s exactly what I heard the other day.
The answer might seem obvious – just throw in some computer related terminology, slap it with some episodes of Silicon Valley, add some topics that Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory would approve – and the deal is done! Right?
Only if what you are cooking with this recipe has never had the aspiration of reaching anywhere beyond mediocrity. And our motto at WIS Software has a different ring to it: “Do more than you can.”
Just like any educational program, the success of ESL for IT purposes relies on interest towards the subject. There is nothing wrong with embedding your lesson plans into popular products of mass media or using memes for illustrative purposes; it is a useful tool after all – it’d be preposterous to ignore it. Having said that, the thing that you really need to have is a profound understanding of the industry, workflow process, technologies and problems that may arise in the scope of professional duty of a developer. Memes will be just memes unless your teacher makes an effort to actually turn it into a relevant educational tool that will enhance your chance to avoid a tricky question during an interview, or aid in de-escalation of a conflict situation with a customer, or facilitate pitching an idea to your PM. And to do that, he has to be something of a scientist himself, you know.

Вчера наконец-таки прислали фото и видеоотчет с конференции HolyJS📸
Мы с вами знаем, кто из нашей компании принимал участие в ней🧑🏻‍💻
Дима с радостью расскажет вам о своих впечатлениях:
"Был значит осенью спикером на HolyJS. Это был мой первый опыт выступления на такой большой конференции.
Могу сказать, что мне понравился процесс подготовки доклада и работы с программным комитетом и куратором. Было четкое понимание, что от меня требуется как от докладчика и что я могу рассказать такого интересного. На самом деле, когда пришел ответ, что мою заявку подтвердили, был невероятный эмоциональный подъем и страх, как бы не облажаться 😅
Но в процессе подготовки эмоциональный подъем окреп, а чувство страха уходило на второй план. Оффлайн часть прошла очень круто, особенно процесс проверки оборудования. Я очень сильно переживал, как бы там чего не отвалилось во время презентации, так как было много разного контента. Но после прогона стал уверен,что все пройдет отлично.
Сам доклад прошел хорошо. Было пару моментов, где нужно было немного успокоиться и уменьшить темп повествования, но это уже придет с опытом.
После доклада словил ощущение, что мог бы и лучше, но потом поговорил с ребятами из зала, выпил бокал вина и понял, что вообще все было прекрасно, и я зря загоняюсь.
Чуть-чуть про саму конфу. Она была просто замечательная. Я успел познакомиться с большим количеством коллег по цеху. Залутал пару стендов, много новых стикеров, кепок и, кончено же, уточка джокер. Отдельная благодарность программному комитету Холи и всем ребятам, кто помогал готовить этот доклад. Вы просто замечательные котики, люблю вас

P.S. После конференции успел принять участие в дебатах. Это была одна из активностей которая мне показалась очень свежей. Я нигде такого не видел, когда программисты спорят о программировании, но в рамках определенных правил. Моя команда даже выиграла! Ну и мы получили призы, так что за такую активность вообще отдельная благодарность🤜🏼🤛🏼"

This Friday was eventful for everybody in our company.

Frontend department went on to taste cocktails in O.W. Grant (with our enthusiasm we should have been offered to become ambassadors of that bar)

Python department spent Friday evening with speakers and cider.

Alexander continued the series of reports on Theory of Inventive Problem Solving. This time, the subject was “TIPS in IT. Solutions for Contradictions in Time and Space”

What we did is:

🔸Reviewed the material from the previous lecture.

🔸Learned to draw schematics.

🔸Learned two standards for problem-solving in “space and time”

🔸Figured out the contradiction in time on the architectural level.

🔸Found out the contradiction in space on the code level.

Michael was in charge of the Code Smells segment where our guys analyzed the examples of code optimization through algorithms.

First, we talked about transforming data to speed up the code, how to bring it to structures that are more convenient for task processing. We discussed how choosing the right structure affects the speed of the code.

Secondly, we analyzed an example of a head-on approach. You might come across the fact that the code is going to work for a long time. We found out how point optimizations can be made to speed up some cases.

After that, it was established how to reformulate the initial task into something more clear and solvable.

We also discussed the optimizations at the idea level.
