Mtskheta – the first capital of Georgia. We will visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (XI c.) where is buried the robe of Jesus Christ. The Cathedral is the burial place of the Royal family of Bagrationi and the patriarchs of Georgia. We go up to Jvari monastery of VII century (UNESCO site) from where is unforgettable view to two rivers, flowing together Mtkvari and Aragvi. Here is the cradle of Christianity and happened the baptizing of King Mirian and Georgian people in 337. Not far from Svetitskhoveli is women’s monastery Samtavro of the XI century. After that we go to the monastery of Shio Mgvime, founded by one of the Assyrian fathers Shio in the VI century. Who spent last 2 years of his life in central caves of the monastery, and by his own request he was buries there.
