It is fantastic to see the Accessibility Ambassadors at Ysgol Bryn Alyn continuing their incredible work to make their school more inclusive and accessible for everyone.

This week, the ambassadors met with the school's caretaker to share their accessibility findings, discuss ideas for improvement, and set goals for the weeks ahead. This is a brilliant example of meaningful co-production, where young people's voices are listened to and turned into positive action.

As Accessible Wrexham, we are incredibly proud to support this initiative and to see these young ambassadors leading the way with such passion, confidence, and determination. They are proving that accessibility is everyone's responsibility and that real change happens when we work together.

We are also looking forward to attending their presentation on Friday, where a number of Accessible Wrexham members will have the opportunity to hear about their findings, celebrate their achievements, and support the next steps of this inspiring project.

A huge well done to every Accessibility Ambassador and to the dedicated staff at Ysgol Bryn Alyn for agreeing to join Accessible Wrexham, and in doing so, championing inclusion and empowering young people to make a lasting difference.

Diolch yn fawr!

Together, we are building a more accessible Wrexham. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏻👏🏼♿

Have your say! 📢

We wish to provide Wrexham with a network that allows for walking, wheeling and cycling to become the most natural and normal way of getting about for local journeys. And, by doing so, to promote the health and well-being of everyone and to make our towns and villages more liveable places.

We kindly ask that you view the map and have your say.

Every July, communities around the world celebrate Disability Pride Month—a time to recognise the achievements, experiences and contributions of disabled people, while also raising awareness of the barriers that still exist.

I believe it is time for Wrexham to have its own Disability Pride Month celebrations.

Disability Pride is not about celebrating disability because life is always easy. It is about celebrating who we are, recognising that disability is a natural part of human diversity, and promoting dignity, equality and inclusion. It is about challenging stigma, breaking down misconceptions and ensuring disabled people feel seen, valued and heard.

Holding annual Disability Pride events in Wrexham would create opportunities for people to come together, learn from one another and celebrate our diverse community. Schools, businesses, community groups, charities and local organisations could all play a part through inclusive events, talks, performances, workshops and accessibility awareness activities.

These celebrations would also help educate the wider public about the importance of accessible environments, inclusive attitudes and equal opportunities. Greater understanding leads to stronger communities where everyone can participate and thrive.

As the Project Leader of Accessible Wrexham, I am passionate about helping to make our city more accessible and inclusive for everyone. I believe Disability Pride Month would be a wonderful opportunity to bring people together, celebrate disabled people and highlight the positive changes we can achieve when we work together.

My hope is that every July, Disability Pride Month becomes a recognised part of Wrexham's calendar—a time when our community comes together to celebrate diversity, champion accessibility and continue working towards a more inclusive future for everyone. Together, we can make Wrexham a city where disabled people are not only supported but celebrated..

It was a pleasure to catch up with Samantha Maxwell Author from Accessible Wrexham today. 😊

It was inspiring to hear Samantha talk about her experiences, the fantastic work of Accessible Wrexham, and her campaign to make Wrexham a more accessible place for everyone.

I also enjoyed hearing about her book, CP and Me, which shares her personal journey and helps raise awareness and understanding of living with cerebral palsy.

Creating a more accessible Wrexham benefits everyone, and it was great to hear about the positive work Samantha and Accessible Wrexham are doing to help make that a reality.

Thank you, Samantha, for taking the time to meet with me and for your passion, determination, and advocacy. ❤️

It was a real pleasure to meet with the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Jeremy Kent, today to discuss both my work as an author and the future of Accessible Wrexham.

We spoke about my books—CP Isn't Me, Disabling Ableism, and my latest release, SILENCED.—and how they are helping to start important conversations around disability, inclusion, equality, mental health, and the barriers that many disabled people continue to face. As an author, my aim has always been to use my writing to educate, challenge perceptions, and encourage positive change, and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to share that with the Mayor.

We also had some really positive discussions about Accessible Wrexham and how we can continue making our city more accessible and inclusive for everyone. One of the ideas we explored was Accessible Wrexham becoming a registered charity, which could help secure funding to develop our accessibility guide. Jeremy also suggested that AVOW may be able to offer advice and guidance on taking this forward.

Another exciting idea was for future Mayors of Wrexham to become patrons of Accessible Wrexham during their term of office. I'm delighted that Jeremy has said he would be more than happy to become our first patron if the proposal moves forward.

We also discussed the importance of permanent Samaritans contact information being displayed on aqueducts, viaducts and bridges across Wrexham, and I'm grateful that Jeremy has agreed to raise this with Wrexham Council.

A huge thank you to Jeremy for taking the time to meet with me, for listening, and for supporting both my work as an author and the vision of Accessible Wrexham. Every conversation like this helps build momentum towards a more inclusive future, and I'm excited to see what we can achieve together. 💜
