Beckminster Methodist Church

Today, Christians around the world will mark Maundy Thursday: remembering the night Jesus and his disciples gather together to celebrate Passover and share the Last Supper. At this special meal, Jesus reveals that one of these disciples will betray him, before blessing the bread and wine that he taught would represent his blood and body. After the meal, Jesus washes the disciples' feet after the meal.

The word 'Maundy' comes from the Latin ‘mandatum’, or command, which refers to the instructions Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper - to love one another and continue sharing bread and wine after his death.

In churches today we remember this night each time we celebrate Holy Communion. We’re all invited to share in this meal together - an open table set by Jesus 2000 years ago.
