Wilma Rudolf was born prematurely in 1940, weighing just 4 1/2 pounds. At a very young age she contracted Polio, which had devastating consequences, she suffered with infantile paralysis. The doctors said it was a Miracle she was alive, but she would never walk properly. However, Wilma has other ideas. Age 11, Wilma walked for the first time without a brace. By 12, she had learnt to play basketball with her siblings. At 13 she began running. At 14 she found her speed and became really fast. By the age of 20 in 1960 Wilma Rudolph became the fastest woman on the planet winning THREE gold medals at the Olympics.
