Whitby Compassionate Community

There are a number of strands to be developed in the project in an optimal way.

A little like spinning plates, we need to get some aspects going as a priority but then move onto others before returning to continue spinning the first plates!

DIRECTORY. The online Directory was a priority in the Frome project because the GPs themselves wanted something on their desktop that they could refer to with their patient. "Would you be interested in this or that? Let me print information out for you."

Initially there was a distinctly medical flavour to the categories of things in the Directory categories. As more was understood about what the community had to offer, the content broadened.

As the Frome Compassion Project evolved the Directory broadened to include beneficial, wellbeing activities (including the Frome Men's Shed).

It was a job of work to do to compile a useful Directory for the purposes of Community Connectors (forerunners of today's Social Preiber Link Workers).

INDEPENDENTLY OF THIS, North Yorkshire County Council started their CONNECT Directory of services, clubs and projects in North Yorkshire (a very big patch).

It is still evolving in capability, ease of use and content and the Compassion Project is intentionally using the CONNECT technology to create a Whitby focused directory to include even small, village activities that provide social interaction and wellbeing support by attendance.

There is some content in CONNECT for Whitby area but there's far more going on than is included.
