Tomorrow we will be collecting food and toiletry donations for PAFRAS in the union. Please consider donating any spare items you have or picking up something extra when at the shops. The rising cost of living is hitting hard, especially for asylum seekers who receive just £40.85 a week, so food donations and the work of PAFRAS are vital.

They’re really in need of the following items in particular:

- Tinned tomatoes
- Tinned fish
- Tinned fruit
- Tea
- Rice
- Pasta
- Salt
- Shampoo
- Sanitary pads
- Nappies

Alternatively, you can drop donations off directly to the PAFRAS office (which closes at 4pm every week day) or make a donation on their website.

We're running an exciting collab with Hiking Society over the next few weeks. LUUHC and STAR will be walking/running/cycling the distance from Leeds to Damascus - 3723km over a month (20th Feb - 20th March).

Throughout the month we will be tracking our progress in a strava challenge ( DM us for the link to the group/recording form for those who dont use Strava). We will be awarding prizes for the people who have the top distances, these will be T-shirts from SolidariTee, another student led charity helping refugees. LUUHC will be donating £1 from every Sunday hike ticket to STAR. There is also a just giving page where people can donate if you wish.

The media continually fails to capture the desperation and dedication of displaced people, unable to accurately demonstrate what they have to go through on a daily basis. We want to respecfully share a small piece of this journey with refugees, keeping their bravery and sacrifice in mind, whilst raising money for a charity that can cause real change.

In addition to this we want to start the conversation about what needs to change and how. Guided by accomplished and experienced minds. At some point throughout the month STAR will be organising a speaker, more on that to follow.

Looking forward to seeing what we all get up to - STAR and LUUHC ⭐️
