There is an unprecedented demand in Sunderland for a city-wide celebration that celebrates our Armed Forces, celebrates Sunderland and celebrates Britian.

The demolition of the Eye Infirmary on Queen Alexandra Road will be the first true test for the new Reform Grangetown councillors.

If you live around the area, in Grangetown, Hill View or Tunstall, keep an eye out to see if they do anything.

Pay attention to see how they try to hear your views and then how they put those views forward at the planning committee - if they do at all.

I make no prejudgment on them - I have spoken to Cllr Cowie in the past and he seems like a nice fellow - but being nice isn’t the same as being an effective representative.
