Phew its a scorcher in Kent (note the photo - iPhone overheating - left in for effect!).

We’re British so of course we’re going to talk about the weather.
Solar gain is a fundamental of architectural design. Using “free heat” to assist in warming a care home or IRC and reducing reliance on energy is the ideal, but how do we adjust this when the sun puts its hat on and comes out to play? ☀️
Adapting to overheating is not about a single solution, but a combination of design techniques. From high-performance glazing, solar control films, and external shading to natural ventilation, thermal mass, and green infrastructure, these elements work together to maintain comfort while minimising energy use.

Melissa Magee had the honour of announcing the start of the Championing Social Care 💚💙 cycle ride leg today with the Mayor of Reading at Signature Caversham. In awe of the cyclists setting off, fuelled by bacon sarnies and a strong dose of caffeine to power them through to Wandsworth tonight. Be kind weather and traffic!

It comes as no surprise that “Alfresco Care” won the most votes at The Care Show and internally here at Carless + Adams (the judge can confirm there was no bribes made).
All feedback was positive pointing towards the inclusive nature of the design, combining and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle, embracing a biophilic approach to enhance health and wellbeing. Integrating nature and living directly into the built environment seems to have captured all of our attention.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our stand at The Care Show for a healthy debate on care sparked by our Lego designs. Every single visitor had a strong opinion on the Lego design they chose and discussing their views of care for themselves in the future was a fantastic example of why we as an industry are driving design with longevity in mind.
Well done Team Alfresco Care!
