Our final Zoom session before the summer recess was Ruth Grindrod’s presentation titled “My Vision, My Practice” and what an enthralling presentation it was.
Following a brief round of introductions and a formal welcome from our chairman, Ruth began her talk with breakdown of the cameras, lenses, tripods and filters that she uses.
This was followed by a quick overview of the aims of the presentation and an overview of the topics that made up the presentation.
Ruth then took us on a journey, so to speak, which provided the clue members with a view into how she applied her creative process, explaining the background into how the individual images are visualised, planned for and executed. During this journey, she explained the camera settings she used, how she utilised the various ND filters and also provided advice on composition and a demonstration on how she applies a limited amount of post processing to her images using Adobe Lightroom.
In addition to receiving a detailed breakdown of Ruth’s creative process and how she applies her own rule of taking photographs for your own pleasure, rather than following the herd, we were presented with a wide range of stunning images covering seascapes, landscapes, arial shots, frosty fields, misty woodlands and a selection of abstract and creative images.
Positive Image Camera Club would like to thank Ruth a thoroughly enjoyable and visually enthralling presentation which gave us all plenty to think about and take onboard when shooting land and seascapes.
Ruth Grindrod has won many accolades, including ‘Scottish Nature Photographer of the Year’ in 2019, ‘Landscape Photographer of the Year’ in 2021 and has featured in a number of popular photographic publication. If you would like to know more about Ruth’s work you can visit her website here

2024 YPU Exhibition
Well, didn’t we do well!
Seven of our members enter 43 images into the YPU Exhibition, for most it was their first time.
As a club we achieved 7 acceptances for the exhibition, which included 2 images awarded a certificate. Our acceptance rate was well ahead of the exhibition average and placed Positive Image 12th out of 41 clubs in the Projected Digital Image (PDI) category. A very respectable performance for a small club like our.
Well done to all those who entered and hopefully in future the judges will recognise more of our talented photographers with acceptances and awards. Special congratulations to Larry Candler who has 3 acceptances, of which 2 were awarded certificates, and to Marilyn Roberts and Rob Sanderson who had 2 acceptances each.

As part of helping members develop their photography a “homework” is set on a 6 week cycle. At the end of the 6 weeks all the images are presented and shared on a club night. This provides the opportunity for members to share information about their images and to learn from each other.
The homework for March was on the theme of Flowers, Plants and Spring Walks. Members are free to interpret the subject as they choose.
Below we are sharing the images and hope that you find them interesting.
