A bittersweet moment this week as we decommission our first UV inkjet machine from Domino.

Before we installed this machine in 2019, digital print was a small part of what we did. We were predominantly a flexo printer and we were struggling with some of the demands that print brokers and purchase managers were putting on us.

Expectations were getting higher - faster lead times, and a significant shift from customers overprinting a single design in-house - to outsourcing full colour artworks for every SKU. We were feeling the pressure.

The Domino n610i completely changed what was possible for us with digital print. Thousands of vibrantly printed labels could be supplied to our customers – ready for application within hours if needed.

Over the seven years since, we’ve only seen these customer trends continue. Lead times keep getting squeezed. Not just within retail but manufacturing companies are also under pressure to supply these industries. The Amazon Prime effect in B2C is working its way up the entire supply chain.

So as we say goodbye to the machine that started it all, we’re also gearing up for our biggest ever investment in Crown Labels. Our third Domino machine arrives next month – a significant step up in speed and capability.
