🌞 GOOD MORNING SHEFFIELD! Happy Tuesday 7th July! 💙

England fever is building again, Moor Market traders are still waiting to reopen, Fan City is coming back, Nik Kershaw is heading for Sheffield, and there’s a busy day of events across the city.

Right… here’s what’s happening today.

🏬 MOOR MARKET STILL CLOSED

Moor Market remains closed after pest activity was found inside the building.

Traders have now lost nine days of business while Sheffield City Council carries out deep cleaning, treatment and monitoring across the site.

The council says pest activity has reduced, but is still being detected, and the market will only reopen after multiple consecutive days with no pest activity.

There is still no confirmed reopening date.

🕊️ SHANICE BROOKES LAID TO REST TODAY

Shanice Brookes is being laid to rest at Sheffield Cathedral today.

The 30-year-old mum was shot outside One Four One bar on West Street in May.

A man has been charged with murder and a woman has been charged with assisting an offender, with court proceedings ongoing.

A heartbreaking day for her family, friends and everyone affected by what happened.

⚽ FAN CITY RETURNS FOR ENGLAND V NORWAY

Sheffield’s Fan City is officially returning after England’s dramatic 3-2 World Cup win over Mexico.

The big screen site on Devonshire Green opens from Thursday 9th July and will show the World Cup quarter-finals, semi-finals and final, apart from the final quarter-final on Sunday 12th July.

England face Norway on Saturday night at 8pm UK time, with standard tickets listed at £10 and VIP tables available from £150.

For one night only, Wednesday and United fans may briefly agree on something.

🎤 NIK KERSHAW COMING TO SHEFFIELD

80s pop legend Nik Kershaw is bringing his 6 in 26 tour to Sheffield Foundry this Thursday.

Fans can expect classics including Wouldn’t It Be Good, The Riddle and I Won’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

That is a proper Sheffield “tell your mum” gig.

🚨 POLICE CCTV APPEAL AFTER WEST STREET ASSAULT

South Yorkshire Police have released a CCTV appeal after a man and a woman were reportedly assaulted on West Street, near Rockingham Street.

The incident happened late on 30th May, and officers want to speak to a man wearing a black “Pretty Boy” T-shirt as part of their enquiries.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.

⚖️ MAN ADMITS ATTEMPTED R**E IN SHEFFIELD PARK

A 25-year-old man has admitted attempted r**e and grievous bodily harm after an attack on a woman in her 70s at Concord Park.

The incident happened in March, and the case has been adjourned for sentencing in October.

A serious story, and our thoughts are with the woman affected.

🌳 CONCERNS AROUND HILLSBOROUGH PARK

Police are investigating reports of threatening and violent behaviour around Hillsborough Park.

It follows local concerns about anti-social behaviour linked to bikes, e-bikes and mopeds in the area.

Parks should feel safe for families, dog walkers, runners and everyone who uses them.

🦉 BIG CHANGES AT HILLSBOROUGH

Sheffield Wednesday fans have spotted more changes at Hillsborough, with work under way to remove the old badge from the stadium.

The club’s classic owl crest is making a return as part of wider changes under the new ownership, with improvements also taking place around the ground.

A badge change in Sheffield football is never just a badge change. It is a full family debate.

💙 ST LUKE’S HOSPICE FUNDING WARNING

St Luke’s Hospice is warning it needs to break even after years of financial pressure.

The Sheffield charity says rising costs and funding pressures mean fairer long-term support is needed to protect care for patients and families.

Most families know someone who has needed hospice care, so this one will matter to a lot of people.

🚲 CONNECTING SHEFFIELD WORK BEGINS

Work has started on the first phase of the Connecting Sheffield route between Nether Edge and the city centre.

The first stage focuses on Charter Row and Moore Street, with upgraded pavements, safer crossings, planting and new cycling routes planned.

Good news for some, more roadworks for others. Very Sheffield.

💄 BODYCARE RETURNING TO THE MOOR

Bodycare is making a high street comeback, and Sheffield is one of the first places in line.

The beauty retailer is returning to The Moor with a new-look store, including a piercing studio and content creator space.

A bit of positive city centre news for shoppers.

🌞 GOOD MORNING SHEFFIELD! Happy Monday 6th July! 💙

What a start to the week.

ENGLAND ARE THROUGH! ⚽🔥

After that massive World Cup win over Mexico, the Three Lions are into the quarter-finals and Sheffield’s Fan City is now set to return to Devonshire Green.

England face Norway in Miami on Saturday, so expect big screens, packed pubs, nervous WhatsApp groups and people pretending they were calm the whole time.

For one night only, Wednesday and United fans may briefly agree on something.

Right… now onto Sheffield today.

🏬 MOOR MARKET REMAINS CLOSED

Moor Market remains closed after pest activity was found inside the building.

Sheffield City Council says treatment, deep cleaning and monitoring work is continuing, and the market will not reopen until officials are confident there is no risk to public health.

It’s a tough one for traders, shoppers and one of the city centre’s busiest indoor markets.

🚨 HOUSE FIRE IN ARBOURTHORNE

There was a large emergency response to a house fire on Hallyburton Road in Arbourthorne over the weekend.

Multiple fire engines and an ambulance were reported at the scene, with the road closed while firefighters dealt with the incident.

At this stage, there has been no official confirmation on any injuries or what caused the fire.

🚨 POLICE APPEAL IN GLEADLESS VALLEY

South Yorkshire Police are continuing to appeal for information after a teenage girl was reportedly r**ed in a wooded area of Gleadless Valley.

Officers have released CCTV of a man they want to speak to, and extra patrols have been taking place in the area.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.

🔴 MADDY CUSACK INQUEST CONTINUES

The inquest into the death of Sheffield United footballer Maddy Cusack continues.

The hearing has heard evidence about support available to the club’s women’s team, with wider questions being raised around player welfare, mental health and resources in women’s sport.

Sheffield United has previously said an internal investigation found no wrongdoing.

⚖️ SEVEN YEARS FOR SHEFFIELD BOMB HOAX

A Sheffield man has been jailed for seven years after a bomb hoax caused evacuations, road closures and public transport delays in the city centre.

Police say Yaqub Younis falsely claimed he had explosives and fi****ms at a flat on Broad Street, sparking a major emergency response.

🚧 BIG ROADWORKS TO WATCH

Drivers, check your route before setting off today.

There are major works and likely delays on several routes, including Ecclesall Road, Pear Street, Bannerdale Road, Broadfield Road, Common Side, East Bank Road, Heeley Bank Road, Psalter Lane, Cemetery Road, Bridgehouses Roundabout, Shalesmoor, Tenter Street, Upper Hanover Street and Wordsworth Avenue.

There’s also disruption on the A57 Manchester Road near Wyming Brook due to landslip repair work.

♻️ BIGGER BLUE BINS START ARRIVING

Bigger blue bins start arriving for Sheffield households this month as part of changes to recycling collections.

The new 240-litre bins will replace the smaller paper and card bins, while more items can now go in brown bins, including pots, tubs, trays, aerosols, foil and cartons.

The blue bin has had a glow-up. It is now officially the big coat of recycling.

🛍️ JD CONFIRMS NEW MEADOWHALL OPENING DATE

JD has confirmed its huge new Meadowhall store will officially open on Thursday 30th July.

The retailer is opening one of its biggest stores in the UK, with finishing touches now being made before shoppers are welcomed in.

🛍️ SUPERDRY OPENS IN HEART OF THE CITY

Superdry has opened in Sheffield’s Heart of the City development on Pinstone Street.

The brand has moved into the former Weekday unit, with the council calling it a sign of confidence in the city centre’s regeneration.

Nothing says city centre optimism like going in “just for a look” and leaving with a hoodie.

🎶 FRINGE AT TRAMLINES IS COMING

The Fringe at Tramlines returns to Sheffield city centre from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th July.

There’ll be free live music at Devonshire Green and venues across the city, with grassroots acts, DJs and community performers.

Sheffield in July: one minute you’re watching a band, the next you’re sheltering from rain with a £7 pint.
