VGC has been named FIR App Engagement Partner of the Year 2026! 🏆

We're proud to have been recognised by the FIR Programme at this year's Inspiring Change Conference for our part in developing the FIR App and helping bring it to life across our site-based workforce.

The app gives our people direct access to practical guidance and support, helping make fairness, inclusion and respect part of everyday working life on site.

Fiona Dowling (Social Value and Energy) and Peter Ball (Legal, Compliance and Governance Director) accepted the award on our behalf.

Congratulations to everyone across VGC who's helped make the FIR App a success. We'd also like to thank the following, who continue to champion this work across the industry:

Dana James-Edwards (Head of FIR), Amy Martin (EDI Leader, SISK), Hiro Ng (Commercial and EDI Practitioner), Ian Heptonstall (Director, Supply Chain Sustainability School), Jackie Anyango (Group Inclusion Lead, Galliford Try), Rebecca Lovelace (Chief Dot Joiner, Building People CIC), Elaine Woodburn MBE (Innovation Project Manager, GRAHAM) and Enact Solutions

Huge well done, Haily! 👏

Haily has been nominated for all three categories of our VGC Values while working as a Traffic Marshall on the Sizewell C project.

A colleague summed it up best: “Haily always takes the time to explain the dangers of the section you're about to enter, never loses his smile and gives the job his full effort, no matter what.”

He's the kind of person you'd want more of on any site.

You continue to show what safe, considerate working looks like, Haily. We're proud to have you on the team.

Samuel Naqash, ALO Coordinator on the Chiltern Railway project, has been recognised by VGC SHE Director Richard Wheeler with a Go Beyond Award.

While working adjacent to the railway line, Samuel noticed that the hoarding used during nearby works was unstable and visibly shaking when trains passed.

He stopped the work and escalated to the Area Supervisor, the workers and the Network ACM. That decision protected his colleagues and helped ensure the railway kept running without disruption. 🚧

Knowing when to stop is a skill. Samuel trusted his instinct, acted on it and showed what responsible, proactive safety looks like in practice.

Simon Woodcock, VGC Labour Manager, also shared: “Samuel has been a valued part of VGC for a good few years now, and his hard work and loyalty are truly appreciated.”

Thank you, Samuel. We're proud to have you on the team.
