πŸ§Šβ„οΈCooling mats! πŸ§Šβ„οΈ

Simba loves to use his cooling mat and watch the birds in the garden! 🐱🐦

Cooling mats are a simple and effective way to help keep your cats and dogs comfortable during warm weather. ❄️ They provide a cool place to lie down indoors, helping pets regulate their body temperature without needing electricity or refrigeration.

πŸ’™ Top tips:
🐾 Place the mat in a quiet, shaded area.
πŸ’§ Always ensure fresh water is available.
🏑 Encourage your pet to use the mat by placing it where they already enjoy resting.
πŸ‘€ Never rely on a cooling mat aloneβ€”keep your home well ventilated and monitor your pet for signs of overheating.

A little extra comfort can make a big difference during a heatwave! β˜€οΈ

🍫🌍 Happy World Chocolate Day! 🌍🍫

Today we're celebrating one of the world's favourite sweet treats... but while chocolate is a delight for us, it can be extremely dangerous for our pets. 🐢🐱

🚨 Chocolate poisoning is one of the most common pet emergencies we see, particularly around celebrations and holidays. Even small amounts can make your pet seriously unwell, so it's important to know the risks.

🍫 Why is chocolate toxic?
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, two stimulants that dogs (and other pets) cannot process as efficiently as humans. These substances build up in their bodies and can affect the heart, nervous system and digestive system.

⚠️ The darker the chocolate, the greater the danger!

β€’ 🍫 Cocoa powder – Most toxic

β€’ 🍫 Dark chocolate

β€’ 🍫 Milk chocolate

β€’ 🍫 White chocolate – Contains very little theobromine but is still high in fat and sugar, which can cause stomach upsets and other health issues.

🐾 Signs of chocolate poisoning include:

❗ Vomiting and diarrhoea
❗ Restlessness or hyperactivity
❗ Panting
❗ Excessive thirst
❗ Increased heart rate
❗ Muscle tremors or twitching
❗ Seizures
❗ Weakness or collapse

Without prompt veterinary treatment, chocolate poisoning can lead to abnormal heart rhythms, dangerously high body temperature, severe neurological signs, organ damage and, in some cases, can be fatal.

⏰ Think your pet has eaten chocolate?
Don't wait for symptoms to appear!

☎️ Contact your veterinary practice immediately

The sooner treatment begins, the better the chance of a full recovery. ❀️
