Councillor Kate Fairhurst - Reigate

Vote for those who show up and always do their best for their community. Vote for those who have frozen council tax at the borough council this year and delivered an award-winning waste service. Vote for those who love where they live.

I have decided not to stand in this year's East Surrey Council elections.

This is not because I dislike the role of being a councillor or that I am not desperate to do more for Reigate. It would be a lie to say the reality of being a councillor (and Executive Member) isn't challenging, especially as I run my own business full-time. But, I've loved every minute!

Being a councillor is so rewarding and is a real privilege. I have helped community groups secure funding for important projects. I have secured improvements to roads, car parks, our open spaces, playgrounds and schools. I have helped scores of individuals with a variety of problems, whether they be relating to planning, council tax, vandalism, anti-social behaviour, trees and so much more.

I may not have always succeeded in helping everyone, but I have always promised to do my very best. I see councillors from all sides of the political spectrum do the same - turn up for their communities, communicate with residents, and always try and their utmost to get a positive outcome. I hope the new councillors of Reigate will commit to do the same, whoever they are.

I'm still around until next April and am looking forward to getting much more done in my final year!
