The warning comes as the UK faces rare extreme-heat alerts, with temperatures forecast to reach the high 30s °C in some areas.

Do not underestimate cold water. Even when air temperatures are exceptionally high, the sea remain dangerously cold. Sudden immersion can cause cold-water shock, leading to involuntary gasping, panic, and drowning.

In a coastal emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
