Moving to a new country as an adult is humbling. You leave behind the people who knew you without explanations, the friends who understood your tone, your silences, your chai cravings, your childhood stories. Then suddenly you’re here, starting from zero, trying to build connections that feel like home.

The truth is, friendships in a new place don’t just happen. They’re built slowly, with consistent effort, tiny acts of courage, and a lot of heart.

You have to be the one who says:
“Let’s meet.” .... “Come over, I'll make some chai!"

You show up even when you’re tired. You send the message even when you overthink it. You invite people even when your house isn’t perfect. Because connection grows in the imperfect, everyday moments and not the curated ones.

And yes, it takes love. A lot of love. A lot of patience. Showing up again and again. And love in the form of letting people see the real you. The mum, the woman rebuilding her village from scratch.

But when it starts to click, when someone becomes “your person” in this new land, it feels like magic. Because you didn’t just find a friend, you built a home away from home.
