Friday Focus: Understanding Triggers
Many people think a trigger is simply something that makes you want to drink or use drugs.
In reality, triggers can be much broader than that.
A trigger can be a person, place, memory, emotion, smell, song, situation or even a thought. Sometimes we don't even realise we're being triggered until we notice a change in how we feel or behave.
Triggers aren't the problem. They are signals. They can help us understand what is happening beneath the surface.
The more aware we become of our triggers, the more opportunity we have to respond differently rather than react automatically in the way we always have done. Its not about avoiding life like we used to do. Its about understanding yourself 💛
