As humans we find new things scary and stressful. My son is 4 so he needs lots of prep' because everything is new to him.

He starts school next week so this week we're preparing by

πŸ“š Reading books about school together

πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Trying on school uniform and wearing in his new shoes

πŸŽ’ Buying a new bag and water bottle together

πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈWalking to the school first thing in the morning as practice

All these small steps should stop him feeling too overwhelmed when he starts next week.

But only time will tell. How do you prepare for something new?

Today we did "potion making".

Dante loves the Meg and Mog books so was really into this.

All the ingredients are out of date dry ingredients and the food colouring to make the water pretty colours. I also added bubble bath because of the bittering agent.

He can now recite the three rules of potion making

1, Don't drink the water
2, Don't drink the water (it's so important it's worth sating twice)
3, Have fun!!

What you'll need:
πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ Old Cups and or dishes
πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ Utensils to measure and mix
πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ Food colouring
πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ Something to make it taste bad such as bubble mixture, bubble bath or dish soap 🧼
πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ ingredients such as sricks, dried flowers, old herbs, ginger root, oats, dedicated coconut, fiber, desiccated coconut, rice etc

Lots of fun to be had mixing and measuring and pouring. You can do this as part of a mud kitchen if you wish to make it messier.

This play teaches fine motor skills, the cocept of scarcity and communication skills.

Give it a go!!!!
