This afternoon was a last minute cover at the Olde Castle Hotel in Doncaster. It was a bit of a struggle as my back tooth had chipped while eating some nuts beforehand, leaving it sharp and exposed and cutting into the side of my tongue, causing unbearable pain π£ in my mouth. I was struggling to swallow, talk and sing, so I bought some temporary dental filler from the supermarket and inserted it around the tooth to stop it from cutting me. It worked OK for a bit but just as I was singing Hallelujah at the end of the first set, it came loose and flew out of my mouth in a big hard chunk π£. During my break I went to newsagents and bought myself some sugar-free gum and used that as a make-shift filling/crown π. It actually seemed better than the supermarket filling but during the second break as I was eating a snack, I realised I had swallowed most of the gum with my snack. Oops π±. Somehow I got through my 3 x 30 min sets - despite the pain.
Halfway through, a man who I'd seen last time at this venue gave me a banana - just like last time. Apparently this is a ritual with the singers there- they receive a banana gift. It's nice to receive gifts at all - and at least you can eat a banana π. Somewhere at home I have a box full of all the weird and wonderful little trinkets people give me at gigs - lots of drawings included.
Last gig now for 3 days - looking forward to giving my vocal chords a little rest, and maybe I can find myself an emergency dentist tomorrow - though I'm not hopeful of that π§

Looking forward to this afternoon when I get to be a Bond girl again. Should I take my gun with me? π€
