Sole traders - MTD is getting closer, and the first quarterly deadline is 7 August 2026.

If you’re going to be making your first MTD quarterly submission, now is the time to start getting organised.

You’ll need to make sure your income, expenses, receipts and bank records are up to date and ready to submit digitally.

Leaving it until the last minute can make everything feel much more stressful than it needs to be, especially if you’re still getting used to digital record keeping.

Do you have a monthly routine for checking your business finances?

If not, don’t worry, you’re definitely not alone.

I’ve created a Free Monthly Finances Checklist to help small business owners keep on top of the basics each month.

It covers simple things like:

✅ Invoices
✅ Receipts
✅ Bank checks
✅ Tax/VAT reminders
✅ End-of-month review points

It’s a simple way to feel a bit more organised without overcomplicating things.

Please create an image for the prompt: What does a bookkeeper actually do?

It’s not just “entering numbers”.

A good bookkeeper helps you keep your records organised and gives you a clearer picture of what’s happening in your business.

We can help with:

📌 Bank reconciliations
📌 Sales and purchase records
📌 VAT returns
📌 Payroll
📌 Credit control support
📌 Keeping your bookkeeping up to date
📌 Helping you understand your figures

Your bookkeeping should support your business decisions not just sit there until a deadline appears.

TML Bookkeeping offers calm, practical support for small businesses, sole traders and landlords.

Business owners: raise your hand if your receipts live in your handbag, glove box and coat pockets 🙋‍♀️

If you’re a sole trader or landlord with turnover/gross income over £50,000, there’s a big change coming from April 2026 called Making Tax Digital (MTD).

The idea is simple: keep your records digitally and send small updates during the year.

✨ When It Applies (Based on Turnover/Gross Income)

2026 → over £50,000

2027 → over £30,000

2028 → over £20,000

✨ What You’ll Submit

Four quarterly updates (totals, not full returns)

One Final Declaration (replacing your tax return)

✨ What’s NOT Happening

You’re not filing four tax returns

You’re not paying more tax

You’re not expected to master complicated software

✨ How I Can Support You

I can help you get set up digitally, understand exactly when MTD applies to your turnover band, and make the whole process quick and stress-free.

✨ Free 15-Minute Chat

If you’d like to check whether MTD applies to you yet, just message me — happy to talk it through.
