Custom Built Funiture

This table is made from a tree that was cut down because it was infected with fungus. The fungus caused discolouration and lines in the timber that have created random flowing patterns that are visible on the surface of the live edge table top.

To blacken the oak table legs, I use a process called ebonising. Wood can be ebonised by applying vinegar in which rusty nails have been soaked. The iron in the rusty solution chemically reacts with the natural tannin in the oak to blacken the wood. The reaction takes less than 2 minuets, after 4 -5 applications the solution soaks deep into the wood creating natural, durable black tone that emphasises the form and grain.
