Celebrating Drawn to the Boro! ✏️✨

On Friday, Borderlands CPP, artist Helen J Bainbridge, and guests came to Flok for a fantastic evening of art, conversation, and community.

Over the past year, Helen has been producing a powerful series of portraits exploring stories of migration to Middlesbrough, working alongside three special guests; Jude Bell, Zainab Aboharoon, and our CEO Imran Anwar! 🎨

Helen’s work looks at migration through the lens of the people who have lived it.

It explores how lives are shaped, disrupted, and changed by movement, and the emotional and physical journeys behind it. It has opened up a lot of dialogue, but most importantly it puts real people and real stories at the centre of a subject that can too often be spoken about in too abstract of a way.

It was a fantastic turnout, and great to hear from our guest speakers on the challenges they’ve faced, the memories they’ve carried from place to place, and the connections which have shaped them. 👏

A huge thank you to everyone who came and joined the conversation, and to all our special guests for helping make it such a memorable event!
