🌟 Cole’s Golden Years Got Their Spark Back 🌟

Meet Cole, a handsome 16-year-old West Highland White Terrier who proves that age really is just a number. ❤️

For years, Cole had been living with the aches and pains that so often come with getting older. His joints had become stiff and sore, making everyday things like getting up, going for walks and enjoying life much harder than they should have been.

The wonderful news? 💙

Cole is now on a multimodal pain management plan. Rather than relying on just one treatment, we’ve tailored a combination of therapies to target his pain from different angles. The result has been incredible.

His family say they’ve got their old Cole back. He’s brighter, happier, more comfortable, enjoying his walks again, and most importantly, he’s enjoying life.

🐾 Growing old doesn’t have to mean living in pain.

Many owners assume slowing down, sleeping more, struggling with stairs, or not wanting to play are simply signs of old age. In reality, these are often signs of chronic pain that can be managed.

Every pet is different, and there are now more options than ever to help keep our senior companions comfortable and active.

If your older dog isn’t quite themselves, don’t assume it’s “just old age.” A simple assessment could make all the difference.

Because every pet deserves to enjoy their golden years… just like Cole. ❤️

🐾 Neutering – More Than Just Preventing Puppies & Kittens 🐾

Did you know that neutering your pet can help reduce the risk of a number of serious health problems later in life?

❤️ For Female Dogs & Cats:• Greatly reduces the risk of mammary (breast) cancer when performed before the first season.• Prevents life-threatening womb infections (pyometra), which often require emergency surgery.• Eliminates unwanted seasons and phantom pregnancies.

💙 For Male Dogs & Cats:• Prevents testicular cancer.• Reduces the risk of some prostate diseases.• Can help reduce roaming, urine marking and some hormone-driven behaviours.

🐰 For Rabbits:• Female rabbits have an incredibly high risk of developing uterine cancer as they get older.• Neutering also helps prevent womb infections and allows rabbits to live happily with companions.

Every pet is different, and the best age to neuter depends on their species, breed and lifestyle. Our vets are happy to discuss the benefits and any considerations to help you make the right decision for your pet.

🌾 The tiny grass seed that caused a huge problem! 🐶💚

Meet Margarita, a cheeky little crossbreed who came to see us after becoming poorly with a high temperature. Her mum had also discovered a small lump under her neck, so she brought her straight in to be checked.

After examining Margarita under sedation, our vets found the culprit… a huge grass seed! It had been swallowed and had migrated through the tissues in her mouth and into the soft tissue sling beneath her neck, where it had caused a painful infection.

Our team carefully removed the grass seed, and we’re pleased to say Margarita made a fantastic recovery and is now back to her happy, cheeky self! ❤️

🌾 Grass seeds may be small, but they can cause very big problems. Their pointed shape means they only travel forwards, allowing them to burrow through skin and soft tissues. They can become lodged in ears, eyes, noses, paws and even migrate internally, leading to painful abscesses and sometimes major surgery.

During grass seed season, check your dog after every walk, especially if they’ve been running through long grass. Keep an eye out for:
🐾 Limping or excessive licking of a paw
👂 Head shaking or ear irritation
👁️ Squinting or eye discharge
🤧 Sudden sneezing or nasal discharge
🤒 Swellings, painful lumps or unexplained fevers

If your pet develops any of these signs, don’t wait—get them checked as soon as possible. Early treatment can make all the difference.

Well done, Margarita, for being such a brave girl! We hope you’re enjoying being back home, pain-free and causing plenty of mischief! 💚

🐶 Caring For Our Golden Oldies 🐱

Our Senior pets deserve a little extra TLC as they get older to make them more comfortable in their senior years. At Kibbles we believe in a multimodal approach to support our golden oldies, and a great place to start is with their nutrition!

Feeding a senior targeted diet like Hills Multi-benefit Senior Health, can help support key changes in our senior pets. It is specifically designed to aid brain health and vitality. Its target ingredients help with mobility and joint support and movement. Often our senior pets struggle with their immune system and digestive tract, and this diet is highly digestible to help with this.

Did you know that osteoarthritis affects 80% of dogs over the age of 8 years, and 60-90% of cats aged 12 years and over are affected. Often these pets are also carrying a little extra weight, which has been proven to put them at a higher risk of OA.

Feeding a tailored weight loss and joint support diet, can help get these pets get to an ideal body condition score and support their mobility and general wellbeing. Hills Metabolic and mobility, has key features which stimulate your pet’s natural fat burning ability and is enriched with ingredients to support joint health.

Senior pets are often labelled as “just old” but this is never a reason to just to not give them a little extra support.
If you would like any information on how to support your older pet as they age please reach out to the team, or book in for an appointment at our Golden Oldies club with our nursing team 💚

🐾 Don’t ignore a slight limp... it could be more serious than you think! 🐾

Meet little Peggy, a gorgeous Italian Greyhound who came to see us with what seemed like a slight front leg lameness. She was still walking on it but just wasn’t quite herself – a little quieter and a bit sheepish.

After discussing the options, Peggy’s owner chose our X-ray diagnostic bundle, and we’re so glad they did.

The X-rays revealed that Peggy had actually fractured and displaced one of the metacarpal bones in her front paw. Without imaging, it would have been very easy to assume it was just a sprain or minor soft tissue injury.

Peggy was treated with a cast and spent 6 weeks being the best patient. 💜 The good news? Her fracture has healed beautifully, and she’s now back to enjoying life on all four paws!

🐶 The takeaway?Dogs are incredibly good at hiding pain. A pet that is only slightly lame may still have a significant injury.

If your pet has developed a limp, even if they’re still putting weight on the leg, don’t assume it’ll just get better on its own. Having them examined early can make all the difference and, in some cases, prevent a simple injury from becoming a much bigger problem.

Well done, Peggy – we’re so pleased to see you back to your happy, bouncy self! ❤️

🦷 Dental care is more than fresh breath! 🐶
Dental disease is one of the most common health concerns we see in dogs, and it can affect much more than their mouth. Plaque and tartar buildup can lead to sore gums, bad breath, tooth loss, and discomfort when eating.
At kibbles, we recommend a tailored dental-care plan that may include:
🦷Daily tooth brushing🦷Dental chews are great—but they’re not a free snack pass! 🐶 Keep an eye on portions, as they can be high in calories.🦷Regular dental checks🦷A clinically formulated dental diet, such as Hill’s Vet Essentials +Dental

🦷 Just because your dog has had a dental procedure doesn’t mean their dental care stops there! 🐶
Following a dental procedure, we support each patient with a series of follow-up checks to make sure they are comfortable, healing well, and getting back to their normal routine.
🦷2-day post-dental checkA quick check to see how your dog is recovering at home, including appetite, comfort, and the mouth where appropriate.
🦷10-day post-dental checkAt this appointment, we assess healing and talk through the next steps for long-term dental care. This is also when we provide a dental-care goodie bag to help owners continue their dog’s oral-health routine at home.
🦷3-month dental follow-upPrevention is key. At the 3-month appointment, we review your dog’s dental-care plan, discuss brushing and home-care options, and look at whether a dental-support diet—such as Hill’s Vet Essentials +Dental—may be suitable. During dental assessments, we may use our hills dental uv light, to help highlight any hidden plaque that may not be visible to the naked eye.
Our aim is to help keep teeth and gums healthy between dental procedures, because small daily habits can make a big difference.

Our Hill’s Vet Essentials +Dental is designed with a specially shaped kibble to help reduce plaque and tartar buildup as your dog chews. It is available for small/mini and medium/large adult dogs, making it an easy way to support dental health as part of their daily routine.
Remember: dental diets work best alongside regular home care and veterinary dental examinations but not as a replacement for brushing.
If you are unsure which dental routine is right for your dog, speak to one of our veterinary team today 🦷

💖Happy 16th Birthday, Dixie! 💖

Today we are celebrating a very special member of the Kibbles family the lovely Dixie, who has turned an incredible 16 years old!

Dixie may be managing a few age-related conditions, including a heart condition, osteoarthritis and cognitive dysfunction, but she never lets that stop her from enjoying life. She is always the happiest girl when she visits us, especially when there are plenty of snacks involved during her injections! 🍖🐾

Six months ago, Dixie’s owner was worried that she was struggling with her mobility and brought her along to our Golden Oldies Club for a senior assessment. Following her appointment, we introduced a new pain management plan, and the results have been fantastic 🌟

Dixie is a wonderful reminder that our pets are not “just old”. With the right support, care and treatment, our senior companions can continue to enjoy a happy, comfortable and fulfilling life for many years❤️

Happy Birthday, We all love you here at Kibbles and are so proud to have you as an honorary member of our Kibbles Golden Oldies Club 🏅

☀️ HOT WEATHER ALERT ☀️

With temperatures set to rise over the next few days, it’s important to help our pets stay safe and comfortable.

🐶 Dogs• Walk early morning or late evening only.• Avoid hot pavements – if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.• Provide plenty of fresh water and shade.• Never leave a dog in a car, even for a few minutes.• Cooling mats, paddling pools and frozen treats can help keep them comfortable.

🐱 Cats• Make sure fresh water is available in multiple locations.• Provide cool, shaded areas indoors and outdoors.• Encourage older cats and kittens to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day.• Watch for excessive panting, drooling or lethargy.

🐰 Rabbits• Rabbits are extremely sensitive to heat and can quickly develop heatstroke.• Ensure hutches and runs are in full shade.• Freeze water bottles and wrap them in towels for rabbits to lie against.• Provide plenty of fresh greens and water.• Never place hutches in direct sunlight.

🐹🐭🐹 Small Furries (Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Gerbils, Rats, Mice)• Keep enclosures away from windows and direct sunlight.• Ensure good ventilation.• Use cool ceramic tiles or chilled water bottles wrapped in towels for them to rest against.• Check water bottles regularly to ensure they’re working properly.

🚨 Signs of heatstroke can include:• Excessive panting• Drooling• Weakness or collapse• Bright red gums• Confusion or distress

If you think your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, move them somewhere cool, offer small amounts of water and contact your vet immediately.

Stay safe, stay cool, and give your pets some extra TLC this week. ❤️
