Day four of Engineering Week, and our students were out keeping communities moving!
The group recently spent the day with NY Highways exploring the huge variety of careers behind maintaining and improving our region’s roads and infrastructure, from operations and fleet management to commercial services and skilled trades.
They got a real insight into the equipment and vehicles that keep our highways running, learned about apprenticeship pathways into the sector and picked up some valuable CV advice along the way.
A brilliant reminder that engineering isn’t just about what gets built; it’s also about what keeps our communities connected every single day and, importantly, the opportunities this presents for them in terms of future careers.
Huge thanks to the whole NY Highways team for such a fantastic and insightful day.
Opportunity for everyone 🌊

Engineering Week: Day Two
Another inspiring day for our students exploring the world of engineering here in the Tees Valley.
The morning was spent Intelect hosted by Lily Brothwood , where students met engineering apprentices carving out very different career paths within the business. They got a real feel for the breadth of opportunities in engineering and heard first-hand about the benefits of the apprenticeship route, as well as how to access it.
In the afternoon, the team at Tees Components hosted by Sharon Lane , gave students incredible insight into the range of projects they deliver and just how far their work and impact travels globally. Hearing about the reach and impact of engineering built right here (including parts of the famous Boaty McBoatface vessel and aircraft ) really brought home the scale of what's possible in this sector.
A huge thank you to both businesses and their teams for their time and generosity and to CLEVELAND SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTION for making this all possible through their sponsorship.

A few words that say a lot.
This was one student's answer when asked:
"What's one thing you'll try next month?"
It's reflections like these, following our recent Sector Weeks, that remind us why creating meaningful career experiences for young people matters.

A huge thank you to our wonderful corporate partner Jacksons. for opening their doors and introducing a group of young people to the world of law today (and the famous legal case surrounding everyone’s favourite caterpillar cake)!
From learning about solicitors and paralegals to the marketing, HR, finance and IT teams behind the scenes, the Jacksons team showed our students that a law firm is powered by a whole range of careers, not just the one most people picture. For a firm celebrating 150 years in our region, it was a brilliant reminder that the next generation of talent is right here on our doorstep.
This is exactly what High Tide is about: real connections between young people and the employers building brilliant futures across the Tees Valley.
Thank you, Jacksons, we're grateful for your time, energy and support for young people.
