🥊 MEET THE COACHES: ASSISTANT COACH JOSH 🥊
Whether you train in our beginners, advanced, junior, or adult classes, you’ve definitely seen Josh helping out on the mats! He’s a fantastic asset to MAX and is currently crushing our instructor training program.
With his infectious personality, great humor, and dedication—which earned him Adult Student of the Year last year—Josh is well on his way to becoming a phenomenal coach under our guidance. If you get coached by him, you’re going to love it!
We sat down with Josh to talk about his journey:
🔄 Finding the Perfect Fit
“Growing up, I tried my hand at just about every sport available, from rugby and cricket to table tennis. However, none of them ever felt like the right fit. Later in life, I decided to give MMA a shot and first came to MAX with the University MMA team.”
🥊 Discovering Muay Thai
“Once I finished university, I chose to stay on at the gym, which is where I truly discovered my passion for Muay Thai. I haven’t looked back since.”
🔥 Lighting the Coaching Fire
“As I got more involved in the gym and started taking my own training seriously, I found myself helping out other adults whenever they got stuck with a technique. That experience really lit the fire and made me realize I wanted to become a coach.”
⏳ It’s Never Too Late to Start
“I love getting to know the people I train, building connections over a mutual love for the sport, and showing people that because I started later in life, you truly can begin this journey whenever you want.”

🥊 MEET THE COACHES: KANE 🥊
If you’ve ever trained with Kane, you know he brings a unique mix of high-level skill, flair, and deep discipline to the mats. Having started his journey nearly 15 years ago at just 11 years old, MMA has completely shaped who he is today.
We sat down with Kane to talk about his journey from a martial-arts-obsessed kid to a World Champion, Black Belt, and leader at our gym.
✨ From Fan to Fighter
Kane’s love for the sport started exactly where many of ours did—watching movies, TV shows, and the WWE.
“The pure showcase of skill and flair was what I always found the most mesmerising — and, funnily enough, later became a huge part of my own fighting style.”
🧠A Way of Life
For Kane, the mats are a classroom for life. Fifteen years in the sport have taught him how to handle anything inside and outside the cage.
“MMA introduced discipline into my life. The very nature of the sport has taught me to improvise, adapt and overcome any challenge heading my way. I no longer see MMA as just a sport, but as a way of life.”
🏆 Chasing Inspiration, Not Just Accolades
While a 11-year-old Kane might have wanted to win titles just to impress people, his mission as a 25-year-old World Champion and Black Belt has completely shifted.
“By achieving these accolades, I hope to inspire my students and the next generation to follow.”
👟 Leading From a Young Age
Kane stepped into a leadership and coaching role when he was just 14. Breaking down complex moves for different age groups didn’t just help his students—it fast-tracked his own mastery of the sport. Today, being a role model is one of his core values.
“I love MMA today not because of what it still has to offer me, but because of everything it has already given me. And I will have it forever.”
