The endless search for psychological safety may be one of the greatest barriers to freedom.
Because it is built on a promise that can never be fulfilled:
“If I can just heal enough…
understand enough…
control enough…
avoid enough discomfort…
resolve enough uncertainty…
then finally I will arrive at the aliveness I long for.”
But what the mind calls safety is usually familiarity.
The known.
A today that looks enough like yesterday not to destabilise the familiar self.
The same neurochemical atmosphere of me.
And so we spend our lives trying to recreate the known whilst wondering why we feel so stuck.
Because life is never found in the known.
Life is movement.
Life is emergence.
Life is what appears when we stop demanding that reality conform to yesterday.
Most people think they are seeking safety.
What they are really seeking is relief from the tension of being the self they currently take themselves to be.
Because the self organised around fear will always seek certainty.
The self organised around lack will always seek completion.
The self organised around separation will always seek safety.
And yet none of those things can ever satisfy it.
Because what you long for is not the successful management of experience.
What you long for is the aliveness that remains when you stop mistaking yourself for a contraction.
You do not want safety nearly as much as you think you do.
🪽✨You want freedom from the self that believes it must endlessly seek it.
