After a few different venues over the 12 years we’ve been here, it’s finally back to what it should be, a proper British pub, just as it was over 200 years ago when it was called the Haunch of Venison. Bold move, but they’ve absolutely smashed it.

We’re on the second floor of one of the original Georgian townhouses, one of the first buildings in the Northern Quarter, with the pub now on the ground floor. It makes it even more special, having a Grade II listed venue like this in such a historic building (we even have our own Wiki page 🙀), right in one of the quirkiest, and in our view coolest, parts of Manchester, if not the UK.

It’s also refreshing to see, with so many pubs and establishments shutting across the UK and town centres struggling, that the opposite seems to be happening here. The whole area has transformed and thrived over the time we’ve been here, and that’s what makes it so exciting.

We popped in on opening night by chance, great atmosphere, brilliant food and beers, which didn’t hurt, and a really good crowd. Quirky, characterful, and right up our street.

Same team behind The Rat & Pigeon around the corner, so now we’ve got two of Manchester’s coolest pubs seconds from our front door.
