Prevent Breast Cancer

July is Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Month. This month exists because not all communities experience breast cancer equally.
Research shows that women from some ethnic minority backgrounds are:
❌ Less likely to attend breast screening
❌ More likely to face delays in diagnosis
❌ More likely to be diagnosed at a later stage
These inequalities are shaped by real barriers, including language, cultural stigma, limited access to information and lower trust in healthcare services.
At Prevent Breast Cancer, we’re working to change this. Through our Health Inclusion initiatives, we’re improving access to clear, culturally sensitive information and supporting communities who are too often underserved.
Throughout July, we’ll be shining a light on this vital work.

We’re delighted to see that a lifesaving genetic test for people with Jewish ancestry is becoming permanently available on the NHS.
Because BRCA gene changes are more common in Jewish communities, and can raise the risk of breast, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic cancer, this is a huge step forward for early awareness and prevention.
