☀️ Keeping Safe Around Water in Hot Weather 💦
With temperatures rising, many people are looking for ways to cool down. Whether you're using a paddling pool in the garden or heading to a lake, river, reservoir, or the coast, it's important to stay safe around water.
🏊 Paddling Pool Safety
• Never leave children unattended in or around a paddling pool, even for a moment.
• Empty paddling pools after use and store them safely.
• Ensure children are supervised at all times by a responsible adult.
🌊 Open Water Safety
• Open water can be much colder than it looks, increasing the risk of cold water shock.
• Avoid swimming alone and always let someone know where you are going.
• Stick to designated swimming areas where possible.
• Be aware of hidden hazards such as strong currents, deep water, underwater objects, and slippery banks.
• If you get into difficulty, try to float on your back and call for help.
🚨 In an Emergency
If you see someone in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the appropriate emergency service. Do not enter the water to attempt a rescue unless you are trained to do so.
