This week we received a very special visit from decedents of our first custodian, Mr Frank Redfern.
Frank Redfern was tasked with care of Buxton's only showcave by the 6th Duke of Devonshire in the 1850s, opening to the public in 1853.
The cave remained under the care of the Redfern family until 1977. After a family tragedy, local conservation charity Buxton Civic Association re-opened the cavern, while Jessie Redfern (Granddaughter to Frank) oversaw from the neighbouring cottage for several years.
Pictured is Helen, Great Great Great-Granddaughter to Frank, with her two children.

** Edit, Afternoon Tea now taken 👍🏻 **
We’ve had a late cancellation for Afternoon Tea today. If anyone would like an Afternoon Tea for 2 for the bargain price of £30, give us a call on 01298 463648. First come first serve! 🫖 🍰
High chance of seeing Aurora Borealis tonight. Our little cottage is tucked away in a dark sky area. I wonder if our guests will be lucky enough to see the lights
