He didn't run through the window
Years ago I heard a story that you may be aware of.
And I've heard it many times since.
About a business man who was trying to show the strength of the windows in the skyscraper he worked in.
He shoulder barged the glass to demonstrate this.
And went straight through the window and fell to his death.
I randomly came across the details of this the other day.
His name was Garry Hoy and it happened in 1993.
There is a subtle difference in the actual version of events compared to the story told.
The glass didn't break.
On contact, the whole window frame popped out of its frame, glass intact.
The cumulative effect of his previous demonstrations having weakened the mounting.
A subtle difference I agree, but a powerful one.
It's really easy to miss the cumulative effect of lots of relatively small decisions.
And focus more on the outcome that only seems inevitable when we get there.
Each missed workout and poorer food choice doesn't mean much by itself.
But they add up.
And they lead to the majority of our results.
The end result is often just the sum of lots of small decisions we barely noticed making.
Things rarely change overnight. They just add up.
Much love,
Jon 'Darwin Awards' Hall
