Dr Usman Qureshi shares 5 things he loves most about being an orthodontist:

😊 Seeing a patient’s reaction when they finally see their new smile
🧩 The variety - no two patients or treatment journeys are ever the same
🎨 The balance of science and art involved in creating healthy, natural-looking smiles
💫 Watching confidence grow as treatment progresses
🤝 Being part of a supportive and inspiring orthodontic community

The most rewarding part? Seeing the difference treatment can make to how someone feels about themselves.

In this video, Specialist Orthodontist Dr Usman Qureshi explains how orthodontists assess whether teeth need to be removed as part of treatment.

It is never a decision taken lightly. We consider the amount of crowding, the movements required, facial and dental aesthetics, gum health, bone support and, most importantly, each patient’s individual biology.

At Origin Orthodontics, we use clinical examination, X-rays, digital intraoral scans and treatment simulations to understand what movements are possible and where the biological limits may lie.

Our aim is not simply to straighten teeth, but to create a result that is healthy, balanced, functional and stable, while meeting the patient’s aesthetic goals.

Where appropriate, we can also consider alternative methods of creating space — including expansion, distalisation and techniques such as TADs (mini-screws) — which may help reduce the need for extractions in selected cases.

If you have been advised that you need teeth removed and would like a specialist second opinion or want to understand whether there may be another approach, we would be happy to assess you.
