Happy Holi to all – The one and only ‘Festival of Colours’ and a important celebration after Diwali. There is also Full Moon - Pūrṇimā in 10th constellation in Sidereal Virgo, in Uttaraphālguṇī (उत्तरफाल्गुणी) refers to the twelfth of twenty-seven constellations, occurring in the lunar month of Phalguna, in the Hindu Almanac (Calendar). From the Vedic Wisdom of the Fixed Stars Nakṣatras for week of 13th March 2025 from in-house Vedic Consultant and Reader of Tarot at Watkins Books Sonal Vedic Astro Essences
This spring water colour festival celebrated at the approach of the spring season, during three or four-days preceding the full-moon day in the month of Phalguna. Holika dahan or the Homa - burnt offerings and oblations to gods by throwing ghee into the consecrated fire along with other sacred grains which are of the form of the planets (each grain for each planet)
Significations of the offerings into the fire (Holika ) is associated with several stories. One of the popular ones is the Holikā (होलिका) was a demoness who was killed on the day of Holi. She was the sister of King Hiraṇyakaśipu. The story of Holikā also knowns as Simhika, is an asuri demon goddess. She is the sister of the very powerful demigod kinds, Hiraṇyakaśipu and Hiranyaksha, and the paternal aunt of Prahlada. Hiraṇyakaśipu won over the kingdom on entire earth. His megalomania knew no bounds and he commanded everybody in his kingdom to worship only him.
His great disappointment, his son, Prahlad, became an ardent devotee of Lord Narayana, and was always had him on his mind and so it was obvious to everyone that he was protected by Viṣṇu himself!
After several failed attempts at destrying the bhakti devotion of his son for lord Viṣṇu, he asked his sister, Holikā to enter a blazing fire with Prahlad in her lap. For, Hiraṇyakaśipu knew that Holikā had a boon, whereby, she could enter the fire without getting burnt.
Holikā coaxed young Prahlad to sit in her lap she entered the blazing fire. Holikā was not aware that the boon worked only when she entered the fire alone!
Holikā was burned to her death while Prahlad was saved by Viṣṇu. Hence the burning of grains etc takes away the evil and heralds a cleaner spring, freeing the environment of negative energies and bacterial/viruses.
The fire is significant as it cleanses away the negativity in the environment as the fire and smoke emitted by the burning of woods and herbs and grains actually act as a atmospheric cleanser. So do have a little fire and try burning some herbs and leaves. One of the most effective remedies is burning of Sesame, Ghee mixed with Camphor powder.
This Also marks the Lunar Eclipse in Uttaraphālguṇī (उत्तरफाल्गुणी) in Sidereal Leo. Vedic Deity of Uttaraphālguṇī is Aryama, is the 3rd son of Aditi, the mother of the Gods.
Aryama has close association with the ancestors, predecessors or the Manes. Lord Krishna tells Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita on Vibhuti Yoga. (Chapter 10, Verse 29)
अनन्तश्चास्मि नागानां वरुणो यादसामहम् |
पितृणामर्यमा चास्मि यम: संयमतामहम् || 29||
anantaśh chāsmi nāgānāṁ varuṇo yādasām aham
pitṝīṇām aryamā chāsmi yamaḥ sanyamatām aham
As per the commentary of Jnaneshwari by Jnaneshwar, he states - Amongst the weapons, I am, Oh Dhanurdhara, the thunderbolt, that is flourished in the hands of Indra, the performer of a hundred sacrifices; Kamadhenu (the wish fulfilling cow) amongst cows. I am the God of Love amongst those that procreate. I am Vasuki the chief of the serpent race; I am Ananta (Shesha) amongst the Nagas (dragons-serpents-semi-gods having bodies of serpents and faces of men). I am Varuna the master beloved of the Maiden—“West-sky”—amongst the maids,” said Ananta. “I am Aryama, the Chief Pitara amongst Manes (Pitaras—ancestors or departed progenitors of human families). And I am that Yama (the chief of the arbiters of men who set down all good and evil actions of souls, keep vigil over the searching of the hearts of all beings and requite them for their actions by strict rules). I am then the (Yama) Dharma, the great judge of all actions,” said Rama, the husband of Rama (ramāpatī).
Thus Aryama has connotations of Ārya meaning the noble, supreme, devoted , Kind one. Hence Āryama is the chief amongst the pitaras – our ancestors. This is 1st pada of Uttaraphalguni, so the dharma is very strong in this pada. As it is also in 9th harmonic in Sagittarius. Strong fighting gallant and feisty nature attributable to this pada 1. The dual signs Virgo and Pisces along with Aries and Leo will be the signs most impacted. By this Lunar eclipse, which is not a easy one. One of the best mantras are Shakti mantras for this Lunar Eclipse to take the impurity and angst out of this Lunar
