Leonardo started his drawings with a delicate but precise sketch of the entire subject before building up layers of slightly darker lines to define the form. He would eventually build up shadows with layers of hatching in one direction. On top of this linear and tonal design he would refine the drawing, adding accents to selective details.

Reviving the Renaissance With Italian Porphyry Earlier this year, our West Thurrock Depot was approached by artist Jonathan Long from The Renaissance Workshop to supply Italian Porphyry for an authentic grinding slab and muller for making paint.
