Botswana has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the world, with around one in five adults aged 15–49 living with HIV. In response to this epidemic, Sentebale's work in the region focuses on interventions to promote prevention, education and awareness amongst young people.

As such, community health workers (CHWs) in Botswana continue to engage young people across various platforms, delivering vital messages on HIV prevention, human rights, and stigma reduction.

To kickstart the year, Sentebale and other stakeholders participated in a boot camp in January at Ledumang Senior Secondary School and conducted a health talk at Naledi Senior Secondary School consecutively, empowering learners with accurate information to help them make informed, healthy decisions.

We believe that when young people are empowered with health information they can have agency over their lives and fight to reduce the spread of HIV.

We're still over the moon from the laughs and joy that were palpable at our movie day hosted in collaboration with the local community at the behest of Morena Moits'upeli Jobo last week Sunday. 🎬 🍿 😊

For the event, Sentebale Lesotho hosted 50 children aged 8 – 12years old to a free movie day at Mamohato Children’s Centre at Lihaseng Village in Thaba-Bosiu.

In the safety of Sentebale caregivers, each child was welcomed with popcorn, snacks so they could enjoy the international children's movie, Matilda, a childhood favourite which showcases strong themes of the vital importance of education, kindness and resilience in overcoming challenges.

The Mamohato Children’s Centre is a community asset built on the ethos that every child deserves to be in a space where they can be children where support, and a sense of belonging are fundamental rights are easily accesible for every child.

When not in use for Sentebale programmes, the Children’s Centre becomes an unforgettable venue for all forms of local or corporate events and gatherings, where every booking supports work that ensures that vulnerable children and young people from the community receive the support they need.

We would like to thank our sponsors, Symantec Printing and Stationery for the delicious treats and for capturing the unforgettable day.
